Travel is “da bomb”

Got you going with the title? Just what I intended! Representative of my twisted sense of humor. Bible Land, here we come. Don’t know if you are ready for us; there is no question we are not ready for you! Travel day #1 was a success. We made it all the way to Chicago. Already better than the last Holy Land excursion when our jet experienced mechanical trouble and we had to stay in a hotel in KANSAS CITY 50 miles from home and miss one of the 7 wonders of the world! Petra. . . determined not to miss it this time. I will say that the fellowship with that first group of fellow pilgrims will be hard to duplicate. They made our disappointing delay two years ago so much easier to bear.

Travel day #2 began at 7:00 am this morning and will end with little sleep after 36 hours. Amman, Jordan is 14 hours from where we are and they are 8 hours ahead. Add all that up and it equals one very long day. Not complaining, however, you have to travel that far to leave the 21st century and enter the world of the Bible. What a wonderful chance to draw away from the treadmill of life and connect to the historicity of 1,000s of years of biblical truth! This is truly an opportunity that must be stewarded well. The next time I experience Jerusalem, it will probably be brand new! A comparison that cannot be equaled.

It’s nice knowing a bit more what to expect this time. I’m excited to once again see the Hasidic Jews, Orthodox monks, Christians and those Muslims who worship a different God all sharing the same pathway. Walking deep in conversation, unaware of the “westerners” who are so fascinated by their mannerisms. That clash of ethnicity which can be so divisive, yet so rich at the same time! I can almost smell the incense, the tea, the textiles, the lush green growing things and the hash shops all mingled. What a sensory experience I know it will be! The valley of Megiddo where the final battle of the ages will be fought, the harshness of the wilderness where Jesus was tempted, John the Baptist lived, Saul chased the anointed young David. Bring it on and make my heart ready!

What glorious timing too! So soon after the celebration of the birth of our Savior! Fresh in my mind is the worship we experienced on Christmas Eve. Declaring one Christ and only one way to the Father! Truth not as man defines it but as God through His Son has declared it to be! Jesus Christ, who came to the world He created with only one purpose to save those He loved who were hopeless and helpless without the redemption that He brings. He came to the cradle with the cross always in view! Hallelujah!

Romans 3:28-30
Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith apart from the deeds of the law. Or is He the God of the Jews only? Is He not also the God of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also, since there is one God who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through faith.

This Gentile is living the reality of His gracious gift!

I plan to blog as often as I have time and connection. Will include snips of each day, including pictures as I am allowed.

Shalom,
Diane
